TerraCOH, Inc. Semi-Finalist for International Energy Prize
Minneapolis, MN: TerraCOH, Inc., whose mission is to produce zero-carbon, low-cost electrical power using its proprietary Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Plume Geothermal - CPG™ technology, has been selected as one of 27 teams for the semi-final round of the international NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE (http://carbon.xprize.org).
“Reaching this stage of the XPRIZE challenge is recognition that our CPG™ technology has the potential to dramatically change large scale power generation by eliminating carbon emissions and employing sequestered CO2 to generate more energy,” said TerraCOH CEO John Griffin. “We owe a great deal to our committed employees, researchers at the University of Minnesota, where our technology was originally developed, and our ongoing research partners at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, The Ohio State University, and ETH Zurich.”
The NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE challenges the world to reimagine what can be done with CO2 emissions by incentivizing and accelerating the development of technologies that convert CO2 into valuable products. XPRIZE will provide contacts, relationships and funds to help the current, semi-finalist companies meet their mission, with $7.5 million awards for winners of the final round in each of two tracks. (finalists will also receive a combined $2.5 million in each track.).
TerraCOH, Inc. is a renewable energy company based in Minneapolis, MN. Spun out of the University of Minnesota in 2014, TerraCOH is in the process of its technology to generate zero-carbon, baseload (24/7) electricity.
